Key competencies of new MHW trainers

  • Proven demonstrated corporate business acumen. Able to speak the language of corporate structures, able to quickly adapt to any new client environment with a strong background and professional interest in workplace culture, policy, organizational behavior, human rights, etc.
  • Credibility as the expert in workplace issues with at least one area of proven expertise: interpersonal communication skill building in a workplace context, human rights in the workplace, accommodation and legal expertise, human resources and organizational behaviour, corporate disability management. An effective Mental Health Works trainer brings competencies beyond a public education or mental health background. These on their own are not enough to equip someone to be an effective Mental Health Works trainer.
  • Proven excellence as a facilitative adult educator. Mental Health Works is a highly interactive and responsive training program that requires a solid set of group facilitation skills. This skill set is not developed during the train the trainer sessions–it must already exist.
  • The ability to teach the Mental Health Works skill-building intervention techniques, approaches and strategies requires trainers who are able to pick up the Mental Health Works language and approach easily. Mental Health Works trainers must bring an advanced knowledge of the complexities of workplace issues, and already have proven capacity to navigate those waters, either as a successful manager themselves, in a support/consultant role to organizations, as a union rep, as an HR consultant or other roles that provide hands-on experience of workplace issues. Mental Health Works trainers have to be forward-thinkers, who are able to easily espouse the Mental Health Works philosophy, messaging and style because it coincides with their own demonstrated professional approaches and philosophies.
  • Proven ability to facilitate a collaborative learning environment using best practices in adult education. Education or demonstrated success in adult education approaches, course delivery and preparation in a corporate setting, communication skills in the workplace.
  • Testimonials from past satisfied clients.
