Consulting for the Psychologically Safe and Supportive Workplace

CMHA is pleased to offer consulting services that can assist employers in their efforts to understand and meet the new legal requirements to provide a psychologically safe workplace.

The Canadian government in partnership with the Mental Health Commission of Canada is launching a new standard for Psychological health and safety in the workplace. Both Kathy Jurgens, National Program Manager for Mental Health Works and Dr. Martin Shain, industry’s lead in this area are a part of the technical committee helping to create this new National standard. The new standard will be released in 2012. We are here ready to consult with your organization in preparing a plan to meet this new standard.

A psychologically safe workplace is one that allows no significant harm to employee mental health through negligent, reckless or intentional acts or omissions.

More simply, it is one in which every reasonable effort is made to protect the mental health of employees.

We offer:

  • Expert advice to employers and employer representatives on the upstream drivers of mental health and mental disorder in the workplace.
  • Audits of existing data your organization collects on a regular basis, through the lens of mental health in the workplace
  • Look at your current policies and practices
  • Make recommendations for new approaches and programs to meet your organizations commitment to providing a psychologically safe and supportive workplace.
