Issues and Solutions: Managing Mental Health in the Workplace

» Download description as a Word file

In any size of business there can be employees who experience depression or anxiety related disorders. In fact, over 20% of all Canadians will experience a mental health issue in their lifetime and many more employees will go through a time of stress or burnout where their coping strategies are stretched to the limit.

Mental Health Works knows that small to medium-sized business owners have to address these issues in the same way that larger organizations, who have access to human resources personnel and/or occupational health professionals, do. Most business owners have neither the time, money or expertise to do this effectively.

We cannot give you money (sorry about that), but we can offer you the knowledge that will save you both time and money in addressing these issues early and effectively – before poor performance impacts your bottom line, before conflict damages morale, and before you feel the stress in your personal life.

To do this, Mental Health Works with generous support from Great-West Life’s Centre for Mental Health in the Workplace and with the endorsement of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, is offering a customized version of our Issues and Solutions: Managing Mental Health in the Workplace workshop to organizations that host events for small business in Canada across the country as a public service.

This 2 hour presentation will provide small and medium sized business owners with:

  • Practical strategies on how to identify and address mental health issues, including emotional distress and burnout with employees
  • Engaging, multi-media presentation including video of people who live and work with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety
  • Useful information and resources for effective performance management when mental health or addiction is a concern
