CORE WORKSHOP

Audience:

Length:

6 content hours + 15 minute breaks (x2) + 30 minute lunch

General Description:

This workshop provides participants an in depth understanding of mental health and mental illness. It is made up of four modules: Mental Health at Work, Mood and Depression, Stress and Anxiety, and Psychological Health and Safety. Our core workshop presents a balanced, cross-cutting approach that features awareness building, responding skills, and collaborative change.

Participants will have contact with employees who work and live with a mental illness, either live or through video. This workshop is highly interactive, with activities and discussion throughout.

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Have a better understanding of mental health
  • Be more able to recognized signs and symptoms of common mental illnesses at work
  • Start to build confidence in having conversations around mental health concerns
  • Build greater comfort in seeking help for themselves and others
  • Be more aware of where to look and how to ask for resources

General Description:

This workshop combines module one of the core workshop (Mental Health at Work) with elements of both module two (Mood & Depression) and module three (Stress & Anxiety). The result is a balanced half-day overview of workplace mental health. The first half introduces participants to the important overarching ideas and concepts, followed by a closer examination of two common mental health problems in the second half.

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • See the important role of mental health in maintaining a healthy and safe workplace
  • Consider strategies to address issues relating to health and safety from a mental health lens
Depression & Anxiety

Audience:

General audiences, mixed audiences, employees, employers.

Length:

3 hours (including 15 minute break)

General Description:

This workshop combines modules two (Mood & Depression) and three (Stress & Anxiety) of the core workshop to provide a focused look at the most common mental health problems that impact the workplace. Signs and symptoms for each are discussed, and participants are guided through the Mental Health Works approach to having a challenging conversation in an interactive format.

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Better understand the nature, context, and function of depression and anxiety
  • Have a framework approach for how to identify and intervene at any stage of the problem
Mental Health & Safety

Audience:

General audiences, mixed audiences, employees, employers.

Length:

3 hours (including 15 minute break)

General Description:

This workshop combines modules one (Mental Health at Work) and four (Psychological Health & Safety) of the core workshop to provide a focused look at workplace mental health at the level of prevention and promotion. Psychosocial protective factors, accommodation, and return to work are discussed in an interactive format. By the end of this session, participants will:

  • See the important role of mental health in maintaining a healthy and safe workplace
  • Consider strategies to address issues relating to health and safety from a mental health lens

This presentation features the first module of our Core workshop as a condensed standalone presentation. It is our most basic introduction to workplace mental health. It provides a high-level introduction to Mental Health Works, mental health awareness, responding to some common issues, and psychological health and safety.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Consider mental health as embedded within overall health.
  • Understand mental health and common mental health problems in terms of balance.
  • Understand the impact of stigmatizing language and beliefs, their own and that of others
Stress & Anxiety

Audience:

General Description:

This presentation features the third module of our Core workshop as an condensed standalone presentation. It provides a high-level overview of how stress impacts work. It takes a particular focus on anxiety in the workplace and guides participants through a method of addressing it. By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Be exposed to an accessible and evidence based introduction to stress and anxiety.
  • Begin to see stress and anxiety in terms of balance and barriers.
  • Start to understand how to talk openly about anxiety.
Psychological Health & Safety

Audience:

General audiences, mixed audiences, employees, employers.

Length:

1 Hour

General Description:

This presentation features the fourth module of our Core workshop as a standalone presentation. It is a high-level overview of psychological health and safety in the workplace. It takes a particular focus on a few psychosocial factors that impact mental health at work, the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety, and an introduction to accommodation and return to work involving mental health.

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Be aware of what the Standard is and what it contains
  • Have a high level overview of the 13 psychosocial factors that impact psychological health and safety
  • Know where to look for additional supports and resources on implementing the Standard
Mood & Depression

Length:

General Description:

This presentation features the second module of our Core workshop as a condensed standalone presentation. It is a high-level overview of how mood impacts work. It takes a particular focus on depression in the workplace and guides participants through a method of addressing it.
